Himalaya Tandoori
If you're craving vibrant, spice-forward Indian cuisine in Leicester, Himalaya Tandoori at 55 Copdale Road is a name that keeps coming up for all the right reasons. This restaurant has carved out its own corner of the city’s culinary map, especially for those in the know who enjoy a hearty biryani, tandoori sizzle, and a well-poured pint on the side. The vibe? Warm, welcoming, and perfect whether you're dining solo, out for lunch with friends, or grabbing a takeaway after a long day.
One of the biggest draws of Himalaya Tandoori is its deeply layered menu-an inviting fusion of classic Indian dishes and house signatures that give the place its own identity. Take the Himalayan Special Chicken, for instance. It’s not just a dish-it’s a statement. Rich, aromatic, and unapologetically bold, it balances heat and flavor in a way that keeps regulars coming back for more. If you're the type to explore beyond the usual, dishes like Chilli Paneer, Salt and Pepper Fish, and the popular Mogo and Paneer Sizzler make the experience even more exciting.
Now, let’s talk about the drinks. Not every Indian restaurant takes its bar selection seriously, but Himalaya Tandoori delivers. Whether you're reaching for a chilled Stella Artois Lager, a shot of Sambuca Romana, or something with a bit of flair like Wild Fire or Madri Beer, the selection caters to casual drinkers and beer lovers alike. And yes, wine and spirits are available too, perfect for pairing with spicy mains or late-night bites. The fact that they also serve Indian tea is a nice touch, especially for those who prefer something warm and comforting post-meal.
The tandoori dishes here deserve their own spotlight. From the smoky Tandoori Chicken to the crowd-pleasing Garlic Chicken, these items come out sizzling-literally-and are seasoned just right. You’ll also find Chicken Jalfrezi, Vindaloo, and Biryani Rice, each prepared with attention to traditional flavor profiles. Want something to scoop all that goodness up with? Go for the Garlic Naan or the indulgent Cheese Chilli Naan-a carb lover's dream.
Accessibility is another area where Himalaya Tandoori shines. The restaurant features a wheelchair-accessible entrance, toilet, seating, and even parking, making it an inclusive spot for everyone. Whether you’re dining in on a match night with sports showing on screen, or opting for outdoor seating on a breezy evening, the place has a laid-back yet lively charm.
If you're more of a takeaway or delivery person, they’ve got that covered too. And they don't just serve dinner-the lunch service is just as robust, with quick bites and small plates making it easy to enjoy something flavorful even on a tight schedule. Plus, the inclusion of halal food, vegetarian options, and free water refills shows a level of thoughtfulness that diners genuinely appreciate.
For those with a sweet tooth or just looking to round out their meal, the yogurt salad and sides like poppadoms balance out the heavier mains nicely. And if you're one to finish strong, the Amritsari Fish Pakora is worth saving room for-it’s crunchy, aromatic, and wildly addictive.
Himalaya Tandoori isn’t just a local Indian restaurant-it’s a destination for those who appreciate good food, great service, and a beer list that’s as serious as the spice levels in their Vindaloo. Whether you're a Leicester local or just passing through, this place makes it really hard to settle for anything ordinary.
Reviews
There was no compromise on food by them and I would say customer service was good but still could have been better specially while ordering food. We have to call them twice or maybe thrice that we are ready to give an order. If you need something, you have to tell them at least twice about it. However, the food was good and staff was friendly so no complaints on it whatsoever.
It has been a while since i last visited the Himalayas in my home city of Leicester... but there is no disappointment from us on quality of food or service. Indeed, we rolled up late - no problem - with a few extra diner - no problem! The food was first class full of flavour and reasonably priced. Service excellent. of us visited including one child. All enjoyed an excellent meal. I will definitely back! Thanks againDipalc and Deeva...
I’ve had takeaway from Himalaya Tandoori several times over and never been disappointed. The portions are good, I can see the chef making the food in the open kitchen and most importantly the dishes taste great! They have a nice thickness to the sauces and there are clear differences between the taste of each of the dishes.I’ll keep going back to this place and would recommend it to friends and family.
